October 27, 2009 – Golf Balls
Oct 27th, 2009 by Rob Smith, Jr.

There had been much talk of Obama’s golf game. So I comboed that with Obama’s accomplishments.

Artistically I had envisioned something different. This was all created in the computer and I just couldn’t get the depth quite right. I should have drawn this on paper first.

October 23, 2009 – Executive Pay Cut

So Washington talks of roping in executive pay. So executives will play the usual games by shifting positions to miss the purse string ties.

I had a fellow in mind as the janitor. I was working where he was a few months ago. That really helped get the distinctive look of the janitor vs. the executives.

October 20, 2009 – Ivory Tower

All this chatter from one side of how the other is the party of “No’ when that same “No” party doesn’t even have a seat at the table to help guide the path to passage. Yet the media continues the myth.

I penciled and inked this on the same board, so no pencils again. However, the inked version is very, very plain. The digital manipulation got it to a point where the towers appear to be in some misty, cloudy realm.

October 16, 2009 – Obama’s Banking Trobles

Ken Culotta wrote this.

This sums up Obama’s run in office at this time. He has a Nobel Prize to show for his actions.

I penciled and inked this on paper. I inked right on the pencils, so the pencils were erased.

October 13, 2009 – Halloween!

When Ken Culotta said his son is dressing as a soldier for Halloween, I knew I wanted to do a cartoon about that. Then on Monday I heard Vince Flynn would be on Glenn’s program on Tuesday. I decided to have a child dress as Flynn’s character, Mitch Rapp. I figured to do the cartoon early and have it out the same day Flynn’s new book came out.

This was drawn on paper and scanned in. There was a bunch of digital work here involving duplicating scenes and getting the word balloons to sync.

I couldn’t get The Velvet Snowstorm website to take this right now, so I’m putting it here.

October 9, 2009 – Nobel Peace Prize

I wrote this on Facebook: I just did this in response to the insanity of giving Obama a “Peace” Prize. Those that nominated him in January apparently fully expected him to be a Peace-nik. Though he spoke differently during the campaign. Here we are with the same wars, in the same places with just a different president. Yet, I’m reading all these blogs and seeing all of this television speaking as if he IS a Peace candidate. Sooooo, I thought I’d take mallet in hand and slam this issue.

I hope I don’t appear to be a Peacenik. I’m a nut about the military and our supporting it at all costs. It just made me crazy last year working on the McCain campaign and running into the lefty, Peace types claiming Obama to be their brethren when he was clear he was not.

By the way, I’m organizing some very cool events to honor our troops in November, December and next year. The events will be in Florida and New York City. More later.

October 9, 2009 – The Mohave Cross

This is crazy stuff and to me an historic preservation issue. It’s been there for 75 years. It ain’t easy to find. 5 acres were given by the government so this is now on private land. If there is some question to giving away 5 acres by the Guv’ment, let’s scream and yell about the millions of acres given by governments to developers for private use. There IS a crime!

I used Mohave Desert reference for this drawing. All of it done using a Wacom tablet. I was working to draw about other issues. I wasn’t please with what I was playing with. I saw this story late Thursday night, got angry and made this one instead.

October 7, 2009 – Good-bye Jefferson/Jackson, hello Kennedy/Graham
Oct 8th, 2009 by Rob Smith, Jr.

Hillsborough County, Florida, dumps their annual dinner name for a name less controversial…That is, if you’re ignorant of history.

Here’s the story:

Good-bye Jefferson/Jackson, hello Kennedy/Graham

Here’s my commentary:

OK, so Jefferson and Jackson had some questionable decisions. But the Democrats would stare at a few mistakes and ignore the overall human being.

One that was the first territorial Governor of Florida and a reason why Americans are in the state at all. The other being a father of our country, who actually had the guts to fight for the liberties so that we can write what we’re writing here in this great country to begin with????

So they pick a former President who used more beds than a Sealey Posturepedic factory. Graham is OK, but why group him with that nasty Kennedy group. I’m setting aside that Graham’s family dredged and filled part of the Everglades for Miami Lakes and now Bob hugs trees. Hey, Bob! Wanna help the trees? Tear down those lousy homes, refill the land and help save the ‘Glades!

More reasons why the Democrats are a mess.

October 6, 2009 – Obama’s Unreadable Presriptons

I have yet to speak to a doctor who is in favor of any part of the idea of reform. I have only spoken to a few. Especially going through recent medical procedures. But it says a lot that those on the front lines are very concerned and seemingly scared.

This was still another all digital production. Below is the digital sketch.
